Advocate

Advocate is the Bar’s national pro bono charity. We match people who are unable to obtain legal aid and cannot afford to pay with barristers who generously volunteer their time to provide free legal advice and representation. We assist in all areas of law, in every type of court and tribunal across England and Wales.
 
We believe that access to justice is essential to the rule of law. Through the support of our volunteer barristers, we ensure that everyone, regardless of their background or income, can access the justice system to enforce their rights.
 
Demand for our services continue to grow year on year, with over 5,300 new applications for help received in the last year alone. For the people we support, having a pro bono barrister on board can be literally life-changing: a fair wage earned, a home saved, a family reunited. We are an independent charity funded almost entirely by the Bar. We rely entirely on the generosity of donors to continue doing what we do. 
 
We are delighted to be the charity partner of the LexisNexis Legal Awards as we work to help the growing number of people in need of our services. We look forward to joining LexisNexis in celebrating the outstanding achievements of all practitioners who are dedicated to making a positive difference to justice and the law.
