Pro Bono Connect

Our vision is that barrister and solicitor assistance should always be available for pro bono cases, if needed. Pro Bono Connect establishes a network of barristers and solicitors willing to collaborate on pro bono cases and a simple framework to enable them to do so. We do not initiate new cases but facilitate cross-profession collaboration by matching barristers and solicitors on existing pro bono cases. The scheme builds on current structures for sourcing pro bono work and enables any barrister from participating chambers doing a pro bono case to request assistance from a participating solicitor via the clerks. Conversely, solicitors can seek counsel’s assistance on pro bono cases through the scheme too. If a request is accepted, the lawyers work on the pro bono case as a team in the same way as for paid litigation. This leads to greater efficiency, less pressure on individual lawyers, a better service for the client and an increase in pro bono work overall. There are 70 firms or chambers participating in the Pro Bono Connect scheme and we welcome solicitor advocates too. Since 2016, over 70 cases have been taken on by our members, in some instances with life changing results. At present, the scheme covers chancery, common law, commercial, public law, human rights, insolvency, employment and tax cases. With your help, Pro Bono Connect will be able to expand our service to reach new parts of the United Kingdom (such as Northern England, Wales, or the South-West), new areas of law (such as family, immigration, or housing) and new services (such as mediators and expert witnesses). We are very excited about that prospect and thank you enormously for anything you give.
